The path was long and challenging, but today the focus is on sustainability, resource conservation and animal welfare – says Leopold Weszeli of Piringsdorfer Edelfisch.

Leopold has been involved in fish farming since 1986. Back then, he quickly realized that conventional approaches and standardized recirculating systems neither delivered the desired meat quality nor reduced environmental impact. A new path was taken, transforming pure fish farming into a holistic, technical project. Leopold developed his own recirculating system, becoming a pioneer in sustainable catfish farming in Austria.

The catfish are kept in soundproof recirculating tanks, and the water required for this is purified and reused through a special biofilter system. This closed system minimizes water and energy consumption and also eliminates the need for medications and chemical cleaning agents. When feeding the noble catfish, Piringsdorfer Edelfisch uses exclusively on the quality of domestic production.

The result is an outstanding quality that remains consistent throughout the year, unaffected by external factors.
