Waldland in Portrait
WALDLAND Tierveredelungs GmbH is a model company for sustainable catfish breeding in the Austrian Waldviertel.
At WALDLAND's aquaculture center, noble catfish (Clarias gariepinus) are bred in an innovative closed-circuit system. The system's low water consumption is made possible by a natural biofilter that purifies the water and recirculates it. To ensure the biofilter functions properly, neither medications nor chemicals are allowed. High-quality feed is a prerequisite – and in their preferred dark environment, the noble catfish grow as stress-free as possible, accompanied by classical music.
The heart of the aquaculture center is it´s in-house fingerling production. This ensures that the entire breeding process, from egg to finished fish, remains under one roof – regionally, controlled, and transparently.
